Statement
The National Lakes Monitoring Programme was replaced by the Water Framework Monitoring Programme from 22 December 2006. As part of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) Monitoring Programme over 200 lakes, representative of all pressures and types, will be examined for a broader range of biological and chemical parameters at a higher frequency than in the past by the EPA ecologists. The data is recorded by the ecologist and transfered into a database table. Attributes include Lake Name, Segment code, surface area, monitoring frequency, chlorophyll Mean and Max, Water Transparency Mean and Max, yearly trophic status and Total Phosphorus. At the end of each reporting period an overall Ecological and Trophic Status is calculated. This data is only attributed to the last sampling year of that reporting period for each lake (eg. reporting period 07-09, that overall data will be attributed to the 2009 row. This will become more relevant when the 2004-2006 results have been appended onto the table). The Beneficial uses of the Lake and whether the lake trophic status has changed since the last reporting period is also recorder in the '2009 rows' For this reason if mapping the Overall reporting period Trophic or Ecological status please query the table to show only the 2009 year and join to Lake waterbodies geometry. On some occasions there may not have been any sampling on a given year.
