EF.IE.EPA.LEMA_Facilities_WST
This is a points dataset of the location of current Waste facilities (including licensed, applied, surrendered, rejected etc.)
In 1996 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began licensing certain activities in the waste sector. These include landfills, transfer stations, hazardous waste disposal and other significant waste disposal and recovery activities.
Further information about each license can be found on the EPA website.
Used in the Licensing and management process.

An Ordnance Datum or OD is a vertical datum used by an ordnance survey as the basis for deriving altitudes on maps. A spot height may be expressed as AOD for "above ordnance datum". Usually mean sea level (MSL) is used for the datum.
Malin Ordnance Datum
Derivation of vertical height or depth (in metres)
In the Republic of Ireland, OD for the Ordnance Survey of Ireland is Malin Ordnance Datum: the Mean Sea Level (MSL) at Portmoor Pier, Malin Head, County Donegal, between 1960 and 1969.

A Waste License application is submitted to the EPA by the facility owner. The point coordinates are taken from the application and are used to append points on to the existing dataset. The coordinates can be for the centre of the facility boundary or the centre of the main site building. It is possible that these coordinates are not accurate as they have not been verified. On occasions where the coordinates provided are wrong, the site is located using the address and maps provided and the point is positioned in the centre of the facility boundary. Each point has an EPA Registration Code, the facility name, facility type, address, coordinates and principle activity attributes. The data was mapped using OSI aerial photography for validation.
The EPA must be notified if any errors or emissions are found. It is not permitted to distribute electronic copies of this data to any other party without the prior consent of the data holders (Environmental Protection Agency). The data source must be appropriately acknowledged.
