An Ordnance Datum or OD is a vertical datum used by an ordnance survey as the basis for deriving altitudes on maps. A spot height may be expressed as AOD for "above ordnance datum". Usually mean sea level (MSL) is used for the datum.
Malin Ordnance Datum
Derivation of vertical height or depth (in metres)
In the Republic of Ireland, OD for the Ordnance Survey of Ireland is Malin Ordnance Datum: the Mean Sea Level (MSL) at Portmoor Pier, Malin Head, County Donegal, between 1960 and 1969.

Until 2009, the protected areas for economically significant aquatic species are comprised of the 14 shellfish production areas listed in the Irish Shellfish Regulations (S.I. 200 / 1994). The geographic extents of these areas were verified by Bord Iascaigh Mhara and added as polygons to the register of protected areas. S.I. No. 464/2009 European Communities (Quality of Shellfish Waters)(Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2009 and S.I. No. 55/2009 European Communities (Quality of Shellfish Waters) (Amendment) Regulations 2009 identified additional shellfish areas which were delineated by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government. The GIS polygons of these new areas were added to the register of protected areas in 2009. Many of the areas protected for shellfish extend beyond the existing coastal water boundaries. Spatial Accuracy: not measured Thematic Accuracy: The name of each shellfish area is as per the relevant legislation. Protected area codes are unique incremental numbers. Currency: the data was updated in 2009 as a result of new legislation issued in that year Logical Consistency: The dataset meets the topological requirements set out in Guidance Document number 22: Support for Reporting of RBMP, Guidance on reporting of spatial data.
Provision of Shellfish Area designations by Department of Agriculture, Ireland in 2009. Coastal Water Bodies that intersect the Shellfish Areas were selected to form the Register of Protected Areas protected Coastal Water Bodies under the Shellfish Act.
