This dataset represents a snapshot taken in September 2016 for the purpose of the WFD RBMP Cycle 2.
These nutrient sensitive areas are those river waters listed in accordance with the Urban Waste Water Treatment (UWWT) Directive 91/271/EEC on Urban Waste Water Treatment and S.I. 254 / 2001, S.I. 440/2004 and S.I. 48/2010. The waterbody containing the sensitive area is used to represent the nutrient sensitive area.

An Ordnance Datum or OD is a vertical datum used by an ordnance survey as the basis for deriving altitudes on maps. A spot height may be expressed as AOD for "above ordnance datum". Usually mean sea level (MSL) is used for the datum.
Malin Ordnance Datum
Derivation of vertical height or depth (in metres)
In the Republic of Ireland, OD for the Ordnance Survey of Ireland is Malin Ordnance Datum: the Mean Sea Level (MSL) at Portmoor Pier, Malin Head, County Donegal, between 1960 and 1969.

This dataset represents a snapshot taken in September 2016 for the purpose of the WFD RBMP Cycle 2.
The nutrient sensitive areas included within the Register are those waters listed in the Urban Waste Water Treatment (UWWT) Directive 91/271/EEC and Regulations S.I. No. 208/1999, S.I. 254/2001, S.I. 440/2004 and S.I. 48/2010. The waterbody containing the sensitive area is used to represent the nutrient sensitive area. A Nitrates Action Programme was prepared in accordance with Article 5 of the Nitrates Directive (91/676/EEC) and was applied to the whole territory of the State. Consequently no NVZs were designated and a polygon showing the whole of the Republic of Ireland is supplied for reporting purposes.
Spatial Accuracy: all protected waterbodies are extracted from the existing WFD waterbody layers: spatial accuracy of each of the waterbody types (river, lake or transitional water) is described in the metadata for that layer.
Thematic Accuracy: The name of each protected area is as per the relevant legislation. Protected area codes are unique incremental numbers.
Currency: New Urban Waste Water Regulations were created in early 2010, but this was past the deadline for creation of RBMPs. New sensitive areas designated in this legislation have been added to the national register of protected areas but are not reported as they were not designated at the time of RBMP creation Logical Consistency. The dataset meets the topological requirements set out in Guidance Document number 22, Support for Reporting of RBMP, Guidance on reporting of spatial data. Article 10 of the Directive obliges Member States to report every 4 years to the European Commission on the implementation of the Directive in their country.
